Follow along to host a kids painting party! It’s easy to set up and kids will have a blast. We celebrated my daughter’s 9th birthday this year with her request for a painting party. This is also a great go-to activity for any upcoming holiday or just as a crafts night in for all ages!

Read along for my top 4 tips to hosting a painting party at home. Have fun!

Tip 1: Order Your Painting Party Supplies on Amazon

We kept things very simple by ordering all of our party supplies on Amazon. It’s a one stop shop for all the supplies and they were delivered to our house as fast as same-day to 2 days with Prime shipping. You can shop all of the supplies you’ll need for a painting party linked here or on my Amazon storefront.

Painting Supplies:

  • Simple paint brushes
  • Colorful paint brushes
  • Canvases
  • Assorted acrylic paint
  • Disposable table cloths
  • Kids aprons
  • Painting sponges
  • Painters tape

Cupcake Decorating Supplies:

  • Pearl sprinkles
  • Purple assorted sprinkles
  • Opal sprinkles
  • Paint palettes

Goodie Bags:

  • Pink paint brushes
  • Cellophane goodie bags
  • Heart watercolor paint

Tip 2: Set Up Multiple Painting Party Stations

I like to set up 2 different stations – both covered with disposable tablecloths for easy cleanup.

Individual Station: The first and main station should be large enough to have individual seats for each attendee, setup with a canvas, apron and sponge. I like to keep line the table with a couple different cups filled with a variety of paint brushes that everyone can share.

Paint Colors Station: The second station will be where all the acrylic paints are. Everyone was allowed to take 3 colors to their spot at a time, then return them to the colors station to swap for others to ensure everyone gets a turn – sharing is caring!

Tip 3: Swap Out Cake for Cupcake Decorating

Instead of having a traditional birthday cake, we kept up with the creative theme and had everyone decorate their own cupcake! I like to set up the cupcake decorating supplies ahead of time so it’s easier to keep an eye on the kids while they’re painting and everything is ready to go. I used paint palettes as plates topped with individual plain frosted cupcakes and a variety of sprinkles around the palette. Once the kids were done enjoying their pizza, we cleared the table and brought out the cupcake palettes to the main station. The kids loved decorating their own cupcakes and it was perfect to replace cake cutting with an activity everyone could enjoy!

Tip 4: Painting Party Goodie Bags

We sent each kid home with their own painting goodie bag! These heart shaped water color sets were super cute and unique. We also included some stickers that my daughter and her friends are obsessed with and tied them up in holographic cellophane bags.
